TALK ABOUT TAKING ON A STARRING ROLE! When someone named this mare they must have known what they were doing....Starring Role a 5 year old bay mare out of Cams Card Shark & Star Pass is in the biggest "STARRING ROLE" of her life. The mare is owned by Dan Sifert & Bill Andrew both Bill Andrew is quietly one of the biggest supporters of harness racing in Alberta, and his continous generosity many times goes unnoticed. Bill decided (with Dans approval) he would like to lease out his 50% share of Starring Role to the fans...and so FUN FOR FANS came to life. The FFF stable was raffled off first in Edmonton and the owners were able to each pick up an impressive $2540. Next Starry was on to Alberta Downs where again Bill Andrew's share was raffled off and the lucky owners each made a profit of $1240 for the month of June. Back in April Fred Gillis ASHA's Executive Director ran into a group of women in the Sobeys in Lacombe and approached them about what they were doing there. If you were at the races on Sunday July 4th you would have noticed that everyone has gotten involved. From the staff wearing pink shirts to the drivers sporting pink armbands..even the outrider Roy Sturgeons horse Brocket got in the spirit with pink polos on his legs. We certainly couldnt have asked for a better finish, the Mares open was the 9th race and Starring Role did not upset ...under the controls of Alberta Downs leading driver Brandon Campbell, Starring Role came off the pace to win in 1:53:4 for her very enthusiastic Perky in Pink owners...(whom I'm told also had some money down on her to win). So if you are around the Lacombe track on any Sunday Follow Starring Role on Facebook...look her up and became a fan!
